Joe George recently left the “good life” of retirement to join the Dorrier Underwood team.
Joe brings over twenty five years of corporate work experience to our organization, as well as
a long history of developing the leadership of associates, volunteers, and the six
grandchildren who know him as “Pops.”
Joe’s distinguished business experiences include a background in banking and stock brokerage,
and a career with Harris Teeter Supermarkets where he served as Senior Vice President and was
responsible for leading Harris Teeter’s transformation to a world class supermarket company.
Following his career at Harris Teeter, Joe spent two years developing business for a
boutique food broker, two years as Vice President of Marketing for Just Fresh Inc., and six years
teaching marketing and business classes to high school students in Charlotte, NC. A
quintessential servant leader, Joe is committed to helping people and organizations achieve more
than they think is possible.
He is passionate about giving back, and has been involved in several relief efforts in Haiti and
Jamaica with the Missionaries of the Poor. In 2001, Joe founded a food drive which has
supplied over one million pounds of food and inspired over 10,000 volunteer service hours. He
is actively involved with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, the Men’s Shelter
of Charlotte, and as a coach with Let Me Run, a non-profit dedicated to mentoring young
boys through character education and training for a 5K race.
Joe holds a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia as well as an MBA from the
Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. He lives in Charlotte,
NC with his wife, Marilyn and spends his time between Charlotte, Morehead City, NC, and the west coast of
Florida. He is an avid sport fisherman and especially enjoys tarpon fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
